Free Seed-Saving Workshop and Community Seed Swap

Date & Time:

Sunday March 15th, 2026 | 10-12pm

Location:

Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Community Farm @ Norristown Farm Park
2500 Upper Farm Rd.
Norristown, PA 19403

Description:

This free community event is hosted by Herbalist Lynn Roberts of Acuity Wellness and the Montgomery County Chapter of Herbalists Without Borders in the greenhouse of the PHS Community Farm at Norristown Farm Park and welcomes growers of all experience levels. While winter may still linger, spring is just around the corner– and this is the perfect moment to begin dreaming, planning, and planting for the growing season ahead.

Join us to learn the hows and whys of seed saving, with a focus on medicinal herbs that thrive in our region. We’ll cover why seed sovereignty and local adaptation matter for resilient community food and medicine systems and simple seed-saving techniques such as collection, cleaning, and storage. Learn basic seed-starting methods, including timing, soil and container choices, light and warmth needs, and how to set young plants up for success at home.

Participants will go home with seeds saved from the farm’s 2025 herb beds, ready to start in containers or in-ground gardens this spring. Have extra seeds from past seasons? Bring them along to share and swap with fellow gardeners, herbalists, and plant lovers– no experience required, just curiosity and a love of growing.

In keeping with the workshop’s focus on sustainability and access, we’ll create origami seed envelopes from recycled paper. Participants are invited to bring clean junk mail or scrap paper to turn into seed packets, emphasizing reuse, creativity, and care for both people and land.

Come connect, learn, and support community health, resilience, and equitable access to food and medicine as we welcome in a new growing season.

While the seed swap is free to attend, donations via cash or QR code are greatly appreciated and will support the HWB chapter in building a community seed library.

Participants are welcome to join us again on September 20th for a hands-on workday in the herb beds to collect, clean, store, and share seeds for next year’s growing season.

Space is limited, pre-registration is required.
