Description:
Herbal oils and salves are simple, effective, and affordable ways to work with plants for everyday skincare, first aid, and body care. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how herbs can be infused into oils to extract their healing, oil-soluble constituents and how those oils can be transformed into nourishing, protective salves for home use.
Herbalists Lynn Roberts of Acuity Wellness will demonstrate how to make herb-infused oils using plants grown in the gardens at the PHS Community Farm, discussing which herbs are best suited for oils, how to choose appropriate base oils, and the many ways herbal oils can be used—from massage and lymphatic support to wound care and soothing irritated skin. The workshop will also touch on why herbal oils are a gentle, accessible alternative to essential oils and how they fit into sustainable, community-based herbal practice.
After the demonstration, participants will make their own healing salve to take home, learning how to adjust texture and customize blends for different uses such as cuts and scrapes, bug bites, dry skin, or sore muscles. No prior herbal experience is necessary– this class is designed to empower beginners while offering depth and practical insight for more experienced home herbalists.
Participants will leave with a finished salve, foundational skills for making herbal oils and salves at home, and the confidence to continue working with locally grown and weedy medicinal plants as part of their own care and first-aid toolkit.
Space is limited, pre-registration is required.
